Ann E. Bublitz, Ph. D., CLP™
Dr. Bublitz has over twenty-five years of experience in biotechnology. She began her career in 1983 at Ciba-Geigy, working in the areas of business development and technology acquisition. She worked for two years at a small agricultural biotechnology company as director of business development, finance and planning. In 1990 Dr. Bublitz joined Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. where she worked for more than ten years in various positions in business development, marketing and licensing. Dr. Bublitz has had many years of experience in helping senior management make decisions on technology licensing, intellectual property management and strategic planning.
Examples of professional accomplishments include: · Led teams successfully negotiating complex, multi-million dollar research collaborations and licensing agreements, including the coordination of due-diligence efforts prior to contract negotiations · Worked with start-up firms and universities to spin out new technologies for commercial development. · Negotiated technology “swaps” and acquired patents · Developed valuation models for licensing negotiations · In association with patent attorney, analyzed complex patent situation for an important technology opportunity, identifying risks and licensing targets · Worked in teams to value technology opportunities and to assess strategies and technology strengths of competing firms to assist senior management with determination of strategic direction · Provided leadership in the acquisition of a biotechnology company · Prepared business plans and grant applications for entrepreneurial biotech-based companies · Reviewed all aspects of value chain of major crop to develop targets for genetic enhancement · Developed and administered research portfolio analysis methodology · Developed price/performance analysis system used in evaluating herbicide resistance seed opportunities
In 2000, Dr. Bublitz formed BioTech Decisions, Inc., a management consulting firm, to help senior managers make decisions regarding their technology licensing, acquisition and development strategies, and to assist in implementation.
Dr. Bublitz received a B. S. degree in Microbiology from the University of Iowa, M. A. and Ph. D. degrees in biology from Harvard University and a Master of Science in Management (MBA) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is also a Certified Licensing Professional™ and Certified Management Accountant and has considerable additional executive training. Dr. Bublitz has lived in the Midwestern and Eastern U. S. as well as in Europe, and has traveled extensively during her career.
Dr. Bublitz has used her unique background in science and business management to help senior managers and entrepreneurs understand the impact of developing technologies for the future of their businesses and to take appropriate action. She has both planning and analysis skills as well as experience in the implementation of technology acquisition.
